For Wide Feet ~Try These Feminine Shoes On for Size!

One size fits all doesn’t work when your feet aren’t average, which is why shoes used to come in several widths. These days womens shoe sizes seem to run average (B), so you must be guided mostly by brand: Certain lines are better for broader feet, others for slim ones (and there are a few considerate makers that continue to produce shoes in a range of widths. Whatever your feet need, here’s how to hit your stride.

Wide Feet

What to look for:

  • Suede or soft calfskin that stretches where you need it
  • More covered styles—broad feet “spill” out of bare, low-cut shoes
  • Moderately pointy toes to add length (but beware shoes that narrow radically in front; they can trigger pinched nerves)
  • Shoes the same color as your skin, to make feet seem less prominent (great for TG women)
  • Nonbinding design—feet bulge unattractively around straps
  • Boots with stretch fabric, no zipper.

For Narrow Feet Feet

Narrow Feet Or Long Feet

What to look for:

  • A well-fitting heel—too loose and you’ll wobble (and risk a sprained ankle)
  • Straps, laces or ties, so that you can adjust the shoe for a closer fit if necessary
  • Leather rather than suede (the latter is too yielding to give adequate support)
  • Round toes, which make very long, thin feet look more in proportion

  1. Hello Denae,

Shoes were a problem for me for a long time because getting a pair wide enough so often seemed to lack style. Eventually, I found many pairs at JC Penney & then, with the advent of the internet, my shopping horizon expanded.

I have had great luck with purchases from Zappo’s & the selection can be searched by size, which saves time.

I recommend the Fitzwell Topaz shoe in WW as it fits well indeed & it’s a great value & style. The Fitzwell Hana in the same size turned out to be too small so I returned that one.

I also have bought shoes & boots by Ros Hommerson in WW & they have been great buys.

Another shoe I would recommend is the Bella Vita Wow, stylish but with a more conservative heel height, which is offered in WW in several colors. Get it from Maryland Square when a discount is available.

And, if I may add handbags to the discussion, I enthusiastically recommend Stone Mountain products. They are sometimes available at JC Penney but I have been buying from the company website. Lots of details are in the descriptions on the site so you can figure out how big an item is & the strap length before making a purchase. The goods are great values & very well made & the variety is good in color & style.

Love the new look of your blog!

Hope to see you one day this coming fall.
    Ciao,
    Christine
