How to Wear High Heels in Comfort

Hello- Herewith a great article for wearing heels!

How to Wear High Heels in Comfort

By Lisa Kovalovich, From Ladies’ Home Journal.
Enjoy the sexy look of heels — without foot pain. When it comes to looking stylish, nothing beats a gorgeous pair of high heels. Heels make your legs look longer, your body look slimmer, and your whole outfit just a little more polished. Unfortunately for many women, they also make your feet hurt something awful! Thank shoe designers’ propensity for pointy toes, spindly heels, and narrow silhouettes for your aching post-heel feet. And while the American Podiatric Medical Association suggests you should toss any shoes that cause discomfort, the fashionista in you probably finds that impossible. That’s why you need strategies to help you make your high heels work for you, not against you. Read on for tips to wear your high heels comfortably (or at least more comfortably).

Buy the right size. Sure, it seems obvious. But when’s the last time you had the sales associate measure your feet when you bought shoes? Podiatrists know that feet can grow larger as we get older (and pregnancy can result in longer or wider feet, too). That’s why it’s crucial to have your feet measured every time you buy shoes. Make sure there’s a thumbs-width between your longest toe and the shoe tip to give your toes room to move. For heels, this means you may need to go up a size to achieve a comfortable fit.

Stick to round toes. Lucky for us, round-toed shoes are back in style this season! While pointy-toed shoes can wrench your big toe inward, causing joint pain, crunched toes, and even the beginnings of bunions, round-toed shoes allow your toes to lie flat and spread out naturally. That makes for much more comfort. And if you can’t swear off your pointy-toed shoes completely? Keep some round-toed shoes on hand to alternate with the pointy ones.

Don’t go too high. Podiatrists agree that a shorter heel of one-to-two inches is a good choice for comfort and foot health. And with kitten heels still a hot look, that’s great news. Avoid three or four-inch heels, which put undue pressure on the ball and frontal bones of your foot.

Tailor your width. Sometimes the toe isn’t the problem — it’s the width. Many fashion shoes come in a standard medium width. But if you have wide feet, medium-width shoes will feel uncomfortable. When you find a pair of shoes you love, see if they come in a wide width; if not, a shoemaker can usually stretch the shoes to widen the toe box, enhancing the comfort of the shoe.

Cushion up. When you have the shoe size and style right, it’s time to think about cushioning. Many fashion shoes come with less-than-adequate cushioning on the area you need it most: right under the ball of your foot. Ample cushioning will help your feet stay comfy — especially when you’re wearing heels, which shift your weight fully onto the ball of your foot. If your shoes don’t have enough cushioning, consider adding some with a shoe insert. A brand called Foot Petals makes Tip Toes, a flower-shaped insert that provides great cushioning.

Alternate. Wearing heels for many days in a row can make your feet feel ravaged. To maintain some comfort, switch between heels and a flatter pair of shoes. Although heels elongate your legs when you’re wearing a skirt, they are less important when you are wearing trousers, so give feet a rest on those days.

Get Your Toe Nails Ready For Summer Heels

Hello All- For summer heels, for your heels… be sure and use a Bees Wax product, available at any drug store. Soften the skin on your heels, while in the bath or shower with a brush to get off the dead skin. Also, apply Bees Wax to your elbows.

Be very careful about getting your nails or toes done, you must find a salon which is very clean. Don’t use the tool, which “cuts” off any dead skin–many have reported infections. It is less expensive to do your toe nails as home, by pushing the toe nail skin back, while in the bath. Trim and select your favorite color.  Plus, you save drive time and money!  Pink is popular this Spring/Summer–as well as While, Light Purple. and Dark Blue….so have fun!

Rupper Wig Strap To Hold On Wig–Found On The Internet On Wig Sites

For those you have trouble holding a wig on, do an Internet search…for a wig rubber strap with Velcro to close–which wraps around your head…at the hair line. This HOLDS the wig down…and keeps your wig from sliding back on your head. Your wig can’t “jump” over the strap. This strap reminds me..of what is used to tie around your arm…when you’re having blood drawn, sorry for that comparasion…but this is exactly how to visualize it, so you know it when you see it on the Internet.  If you don’t like clips to hold your wig down, do find one of these. They are only around $10.00 and are found on internet wig sites. They really work well, and will fit any size head…due to the “pull and stretch” of the rubber strap– with a Velcro close to pull to the size of your head.  This is an excellent product, for a TG woman who wears wigs, and clips and pins tear at your hair!

Well, today I had a client tell me, National has  non-run panty hose and thigh highs. They are also, somewhat opague…so they have better coverage (they are sheer and not totally opague). They are called, non-run sheer panty hose. They have about 10 colors. You can purchase 6 for $15.00 !! How can this be? But, they have been in business for over 50 yrs, and I hear…these hose do not run. Give them a try in regular and control top.
